Smaller Hoop for Younger Kids

Lifetime 90022 is one of the smaller portable hoops, the backboard is only 32″ large and the height can be set between 5.5 and 7.5 feet. That makes it perfectly sized for smaller children (from 4 to 9-10 years approximately) who want to learn basketball.

Often, these kids have already outgrown the small plastic hoops but are not yet ready for a full size one – the 90022 provides an ideal solution and the kids love it.

But for older children or dunking, you would be better off with a more expensive model – the 90022 just isn’t solid and high enough. Plus it uses a reduced size rim – the regular 29.5 ball fits ok, but it’s more suitable for a 27.5 or 28.5 one. Also keep in mind the polyethylene backboard doesn’t work like glass, it absorbs part of the impact and the ball behaves a bit differently.

Solid Build Quality

This Lifetime hoop is quite easy to assemble (about one hour of work) and the build quality is on a solid level. The 3-piece pole is metal (no cheap plastic) and can be adjusted easily in 6-inch increments – great if you need to adjust it often, for example to switch heights for your 4 and 9-year old kids.

The 10-gallon base can be filled with sand or water – but you would probably prefer water as it takes forever to fill it with sand through the small hole. A few users reported it leaks (they called the manufacturer and received a new base right away), but most customers didn’t mention any problem of this sort.

Sturdy, durable and quite easy to move

With the base filled, it gets fairly sturdy and can get tipped over only in a strong wind. And it is still quite easy to roll in and out of the garage – plus the lower height makes it convenient for storage.

And durability is also one of the advantages of this model – even after storms, extreme heat or cold nights it doesn’t show any signs of wear.
